Funeral Pricing Code Review 2025

Closes 31 Aug 2025

Opened 30 Jul 2025

Overview

The Western Australian Fair Trading (Funeral Pricing Code of Practice) Regulations 2022 (Funeral Pricing Code) which commenced on 1 May 2023 obligates funeral directors to clearly display prices, goods, and services on their websites and at each business location to ensure transparency and help consumers compare providers. They must also provide an itemised quote—including all costs and disbursements**—within two business days of a request and before any agreement is made.

Consumer Protection is conducting a public consultation on the review of the
Funeral Pricing Code seeking the views of consumers, funeral directors, and other stakeholders on whether the Code is working as intended and if any changes need to be made.

**disbursements are third-party costs that the funeral director pays on behalf of the family or estate, which are then included in the final funeral bill.

Why your views matter

We need your feedback to help us assess whether the code is working as intended, particularly whether:

  • consumers have difficulties in getting upfront prices and other general information about funeral goods and services, and whether they are benefiting from the code;
  • funeral businesses are meeting the code’s requirements and how significantly those requirements are affecting them; and
  • the Code and its supporting education and guidelines require any changes.

Whether you are a consumer, funeral director, or a stakeholder your feedback is important and will help ensure the code is well designed and working as intended for everyone’s benefit.
