Short Term Rental Accommodation Register Owners/Managers Implementation Survey
Overview
In response to the 2019 Parliamentary inquiry Levelling the Playing Field: Managing the impact of the rapid increase of short-term rentals in Western Australia, the State Government committed to various initiatives to improve regulation of the short-term rental accommodation (STRA) sector.
One of these key initiatives is the development of a register of short-term rental accommodation (STRA Register).
The STRA Register will be implemented through the Short-Term Rental Accommodation Bill currently being developed by the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety – Consumer Protection Division (Consumer Protection).
Under the proposed STRA Register, providers of STRA in Western Australia (WA) will be required to register their premises and receive a registration number before advertising and taking bookings. This requirement will apply to all STRA properties regardless of how many nights the premises are rented or if the accommodation is hosted or unhosted.
The STRA Register aims to:
- assist State and local governments to better understand the STRA sector in WA to better inform policy and regulatory responses;
- provide the community with information about what STRA exists in their area; and
- ensure providers are aware of local laws and planning controls and promote compliance.
Why your views matter
This survey seeks to get views of STRA owners/managers regarding specific issues relating to the proposed STRA Register. These views will be used to refine the proposed scheme and develop advice and recommendations to the State Government for the scheme’s development and implementation.
The survey will take about 10 minutes to complete.
